This course is a continuation of Developmental Psychology I. The focus of the course is the systematic examination of the structures of human development, as well as the processes of change and stability in behavior across the human lifespan. Specifically, Developmental Psychology II concentrates on investigating the mechanisms and contextual factors within which development unfolds, covering the period from adolescence through late adulthood. The course builds upon the foundational knowledge acquired in the compulsory module Developmental Psychology I and aims to further deepen students’ understanding of the principal domains of development—physical, cognitive, linguistic, and socioemotional—at each developmental stage under consideration. At the same time, it seeks to highlight the complexity and diversity of experiential factors that shape the psychology of different developmental phases. Particular emphasis is placed on understanding the variations in developmental trajectories in relation to factors such as gender, sociocultural context, and early childhood experiences, thereby underscoring the significance of the interplay among biological, psychological, social, and cultural determinants in shaping human development.
Within the framework of the course, students are expected to:
- familiarize themselves with traditional and contemporary theories of development, gaining a deeper understanding of the developmental achievements at each age stage
- identify the factors that jointly determine, as well as differentiate, the individual’s developmental course during adolescence and across early, middle, and late adulthood
- acquire an integrated understanding of developmental processes across the domains of biological, cognitive, social, and emotional growth.
- GENERAL COMPETENCES
